Gizmodo's Anti-RIAA Manifesto
It's well known I love music. It's also well known that I dislike downloading music, and there are various reasons for that. Varying quality due to different bitrates. Hearing the difference uncompressed music offers (does anyone else besides me remember dynamic range, or am I alone in that category?). The tactile sensation of holding that CD you bought and had to struggle to get out of the shrink wrap.
These are the little things that makes music enjoyable.
And yet, for the month of March, I'm not going to buy CDs.
I'm supporting the boycott Gizmodo has started against the RIAA. If there's something out there from a smaller record label that's not affiliated with them, I'll consider it.

Well, you know my stance on the RIAA :D
I will effing download mp3s from p2p sites whenever I effing want it ... I buy enough CDs as it is.
I will try not to buy any CDs this month from the majors.

Dunno what to say, really. I read the article, and my response is "Hmmkay" - not buying any CDs anyway right now.

People still by CDs?

Yes, Sterl, there are those of us out there who still buy CDs. ;P
Some of us LIKE being able to have what we want right now. My geekness lies in areas other than music so I really don't mind.

Warner Music, EMI, Vivendi Universal, and Sony BMG
3 out of the 4 of them I have to check the stock against the invoices cos they aren't very trustworthy sending stock to the stores ;) (oh and Vivendi and Universal Music are 2 seperate companies down here -invoice wise- so technically i check 4 out of 5)
oh and I love that feeling of opening a cd and getting to read the sleeve stuff ;)

Kel, m'dear, I love nothing more than opening a CD, evil shrinkwrap and all.
I'm rather tactile, and it's one of those rare pleasures in life. The joy of popping that CD in the player for the first time and just listening to the music...ahh...nothing better.
And I know, my Priestess, about that form of instant gratification. Remember, I don't hold that against you...as long as it's not Tony Bennett. ;)
Thinking of Tony Bennett...I like the one of him with KD Lang...yeah - the CD complete with now-trashed shrinkwrap.

I like CDs (hey, even vinyl has a purpose still). I like MP3s better because I've turned into an 'anti-packrat'.
